My many memories go back to the first day Laura was hired at H.A.I.L.; but the memory of true personal friendship that she blessed me with and that I will carry with me always was on the day of my son’s funeral more than 7 years ago. When at the last minute I found myself unable to speak, Laura spoke for me. Laura spoke for many of us many times.
    I love you Laura.

I understand the lost to this community, I too am creative person that is always challenged, life is difficult with systems in and out of systems. Ive feel that lately Ive been bullied to do certain things that I know are hard, by one person or another. I think its easy for people to tell other people what to do especially if they are not in acute pain. I did not have the pleasure of knowing this woman but thank her and all who continue to fight the good fight.

Laura was a supportive presence all the years I’ve known her – approximately 14 years. We’ve attended conferences and meetings together but I’ve felt much closer to her since Shannon came into her life. We have mostly corresponded online, but her presence was always a positive one. I read and admired her work for years, and will always think of her as a true hero, a wonderful person and a great mom.

    Dearest Laura,
With sorrow I became aware of your passing. You touched my heart, you were an inspiration, and I am honored that you were in my life. Your poetry came from your soul, making us think, ponder and ache to make a difference. The sky is brighter for the star you added to the sky with your passing. Our lives are both poorer with your passing and heavier with the sorrow. Rest my friend and Thank for the joy you brought to my life

Bon voyage, dear Laura, a woman of substance and grace. I will treasure in memory always one exquisite afternoon we two heavy duty gimp women passionate about words sat on a Santa Monica beach listening, watching, living deeply in the moment together. Thank you for your articulate rage, your relentless dedication, and your gutsy poetic life. To each of your loved ones, I send my loving regards.
